I have had these tires on my Outback for 13K miles and I am pleased with the performance. Very grippy on dry and wet. However, the noise level is noticable not sure if it is a tire mounting issue, but it sounds almost like an SUV off road tire. But as long as I get good performance over the life of the tire I can live with some noise. When it come to price to performance, this tire is very hard to beat.
Initial review: Given the vehicle use, I decide to switch out the Bridgestone Potenzas. Comparing performance tires to touring tires is somewhat like comparing rocks to apples, but it is useful as my goal was to obtain a quieter and less jarring ride while having good steering and braking performance. The initial drive included the typical upper midwest deteriorated urban and highway roads. The tires are amazingly quiet, especially compared to the very noisy Potenzas, and without the jarring ride of a performance tire. The drive included several heavy downpours and gusty winds. Neither were a problem. Steering is not as sharp, and I found myself making more micro steering inputs at speed compared to the Potenzas, but I rate this as a non issue. I cannot comment on winter use as I regard all-season tires as three-season tires for RWD vehicles, and will shortly be switching over to winter tires.
These Yokohama tires are pretty good. I wish they were a little quieter, but overall, I really like them. Much better than the junk stock tires that were on the car when I bought it new.

I like this tire a lot with two exceptions. First, my mileage has taken a huge hit with these tires. I averaged 44.3 mpg with my last set of tires. I have only broken 40 mpg on one tank since installing these. Second, these tires are as noisy as a somewhat aggressive truck tire when you are driving on new or very smooth pavement. It is noticeable enough for my wife to ask about it and she never notices anything vehicle related. Neither of these two issues have improved in the first 4000 miles. I am sad to say these look like they are going to cost me quite a bit of extra gas over the life of the tire. Other than these two things, I really like them.
I bought these tires this spring to replace the OEM Michelin Eco Green tires the car came with. What a difference all around! These tires are far superior for handling wet and dry traction has significantly increased. Highway driving is secure and not squirrely like the OEMs. I’d say the only negative, and it really doesn’t bother me much, is the slight road noise increase. Again, not an issue for me. I actually find it comforting to hear the road knowing how well these tires are planted on it. I have a set of X-Ice’s for winter so these tires may never see much snow, but I’d be way more comfortable running these in winter than the OEM Michelin’s. Tire rack’s track performance is what swayed me toward these tires and I don’t regret it! Wear has been insignificant so far as well!
My 2014 Taurus came with pirellis and we put Michelin’s . I was looking to save money since the first two brands were to costly. The Yokohama’s had what seemed to be a very good rating. But compared to my first two brands the ride and noise are horrible you feel every little bump and seam. And the noise is so loud you literally need to turn up the radio . Best advice don’t buy
These were recommended by the tire rack to replace the terrible Falken tires that are OE on my a Alltrack. Unfortunately the tire rack video review is correct when it talks about this tire have a vague on-center steering feel. I found it pretty annoying, especially since the Falcons tracked so well. It reminds me of driving a Jeep. It is bad enough that I had my car aligned just to make sure everything was in spec. This tire does everything else surprisingly well. Ride and noise improved a little over the OE tire. Traction under acceleration and braking are improved immensely. Off-center, the tire has a nice, sporty feel. It is excellent in the rain and surprisingly good the snow. I haven’t owned them long enough to speak about longevity. I wish I could recommend them but the vague on center feel drives me nuts.
LOUD! These are easily the loudest tires Ive ever heard. Ive got yokohama A/T’s on two Jeeps and those are silent compared to these tires. Im running them at 33psi as per then door sticker and I had an alignment done to make sure that wasnt causing the issue. They are great otherwise. Good Traction,, feel confident driving too fast in the rain, and Ive yet to feel it even think about sliding in a turn. The noise is even worse in the rain. Its a constant weeeeeeeeeen. Its drepressing knowing Ive got to listen to this till they wear out.
After reading many reviews I picked these tires based on handling which was important to me. Also, wet traction was a very high priority as our previous Firestone’s were very poor in this regard. On a wet road it was very common for the Firestone 741’s to lose traction on take off. I have never been able to make these Yokohama tires slip on a wet road take off no matter how hard I have tried. The car handles very well with these tires and has a very good feel to the steering. They are in all regards superior to the 741’s that came on the vehicle when new. Some have complained of excessive noise from these tires. I have not experienced this at all. Of course these are on a Honda Fit which is not a super quiet car to begin with so its not an issue for me at all. My priories were wet traction and general handling and this tire shines in both. I can not speak for snow performance yet but considering their excellent performance on wet roads I would expect them to do fine on the few light snows we get in our area. Considering handling, traction and “feel” my little Fit drives like a sports car with these tires. Over all I am very well pleased with the tires and will likely put them on my Acura RDX when it needs new tires.
With some reviews on the Ascend GTs expressing noise I was a little concerned. Even the Tire Rack reviews had noise references in them. Prior to getting the new tires I did take noise readings via my Apple Watch along the way to the tire shop. Then after the new tires, I drove the same way home. With the Yokohama’s at 30 and 35 mph the readings were consistently 1-3 db lower. Between 40 – 60 mph, the noise level was essentially the same between the sets. At 40 – 60 mph the Yokohamas were maybe 1 db quieter at spots, but other factors could have been at play (was the other side of the street quieter on the way back … wind noise … passing more cars … traffic … etc) and hence I am calling it a tie at those speeds. The take away here, at least initially, they are no noisier than the OEMs that I had. With luck, they will stay that way as they wear. (Note, my old tires were at around 3-4 mm of tread in comparison to the 12 mm tread of the new tires.) That is not to say we have not had a month or two of snow, but generally a week or two of snow is more typical. For what rain I have had with them, I felt confident. I have not experienced these tires in the snow.My Outback is no race car; however, braking and cornering are greatly improved.If I had a con, I am taking around a 5-8% hit in fuel economy (1-2 mpg plus or minus) with my vehicle thus far. I am a very easy driver using Subaru’s EyeSight 90% of the time.For my climate, warranty, and the price, you get a lot of bang for your buck with the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT.
There was no need to replace the OEM tires at the time that I did. The key reason was excessive noise while performing highway operation. I have used Yokohama tires in the past on other vehicles and have been very satisfied. Installing the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT tires proved immediately that I solved the road noise complaint. My wife made the same observation at the same time. The other benefit was the ability to handle light snow. The car handled very satisfactorily in these conditions. We use the Audi A4 for normal driving and in this conditions, these tires handle cornering and lateral acceleration with confidence. I am completely satisfied with this tire selection and would select this tire model again.
First initial reaction on these tires are positive. They grip well in the wet and dry. And do decent job in the snow. Handling in very good in the dry and responsive in the wet. Not sure how long they will last. They are surprisingly quiet even when taking corners quickly. Only down side noted so far has been. They feel slightly squirmey on moderate to hard acceleration with a slight numb feel of the road but very manageable.
Well it seems to be a pretty solid all-season tire in traction and durability. They certainly grip dry asphalt a lot more aggressively than I’m used to, on the downside they are a bit noisier than previous tires I’ve had on this car. They also feel a bit more squishy in turns, but then again these are touring all-season not performance all-season tires. They rip through puddles like they’re nothing. I haven’t had much snow so far but I feel relatively comfortable with driving in snow at the moment.
The Avid Ascend GT is a excellent tire! This tire does NOT have any noise issues whatsoever. I am comparing this tire to the Michelin primacy MXM4 that I had on the car previously. The Avid Ascend GT is a much better tire all around. No question about that. The wet and dry traction of this tire is spectacular and there is no noise that some others had detailed. There must be something wrong with their cars to say that. There is no thump noise and def no wailing noise or any high pitch noise AT ALL. I really can’t understand how someone could say that. That was the only thing I was worried about and glad to say it is nonexistent. Tirerack’s review of this tire is spot on. Another thing, my car’s steering feel is much lighter with this tire. It just turns much easier. Very noticeable difference. Ride comfort is great too. I can’t find a fault in this tire and I take tires very seriously. This is my first Yokohama tire. Also love the look, sipe pattern and technology in this tire. It’s also M&S rated for people that drive in snow. This could be one of the top/very best car tires made providing it comes close to the mileage rating. I did a lot of research and seriously doubt you can get a better touring tire than this. Highly recommended.
2012 BMW X3 AWD; new Yoko tires are running along quite smoothly. Steering response is good, ride quality comfy, dry traction quite good and very low noise – NO complaints, will update this report at 10K miles.
I normally don’t read or write reviews on tire rack because each vehicle responds differently to each tire and the design and components of the vehicle play a role in noise and handling. With that said, I have my 2015 Subaru in the shop and they provided me with a 2020 Outback with these tires on them. I’m 62 YO, own a muscle car, an Accord along with my Outback. When I took my car into the shop to get numerous service items done, including tires the loner (2020 Outback) had these Yokohamas on it. My tires were shot so any new tire that’s put on my car will feel better so it’s not fair to compare this tire to my Continentals. There is a real problem with the Yokohamas. They are squirrely. When I say squirrely….I mean squirrely….to the point where I thought there might be a problem with the vehicle. I’ve spent a fortune on tires in my lifetime and this is the only tire I’ve noticed the problem with. It’s not dangerous, just an odd feeling to anyone that pays attention to the responsiveness and handling characteristics of their vehicle. They are extremely quiet but the squirrelyness will prevent me from purchasing them. My 2008 Legacy had Yokohama tires and I was very please with them but this tread design…..IMO….is a miss.
I drive from San Antonio to Dallas TX almost every weekend. These tires have exceeded my expectations! They still look great and handle great. I don’t spin my tires because I don’t like burning money. But I do have to shoot gap, and slam on the breaks in heavy traffic from time to time and I have full confidence in these tires.
I was very surprised when I hit my first puddle, zero pulling! Very good in the rain! Ride is smooth and quiet for a GT tire. I change over to snow tires, but didn’t need to this winter. Did get caught with these on and feel I didn’t need the snows except for ice. These replaced a very old set of Michelin Defenders.
These tires are excellent given the price point. They aren’t Michelin Pilot Sports but if you aren’t tracking the car these tires provide plenty of grip, a quiet ride and great handling. I change them out come winter for snow tires so I can’t tell you how they are in the snow but for everything else they are great tires overall.
20,000 mostly highway miles bolted on to a full size Chevy Impala after on year. Live on dirt road in MN so needed traction but good tire wear needed as well for highway miles. These tires have performed very well! Treat depth is at 8.5 so right on schedule for 65K expectancy. These tires have provided very good traction in the winter and on wet surfaces. Braking is equally as good. Tires may be getting a little louder on the highway but not too bad. Treadwear is even on all 4 tires. They get rotated every oil change at around 7000 mile mark. Tire is performing as advertised. Very happy!
Do read Tire Racks Test Track reviews, folks, they were spot on this tire, I suspect they are on most. The Yokohomas are nearly a bargain at the price. Wet traction is superb, dry excellent as well. Confidence tires, simply. I’m not a tire engineer, but it’s cool to look closely at the tread design – clearly made for rapid water evacuation while maintaining excellent road contact. I didn’t wish to pay substantially more for Michelins, nor downgrade to something of lower quality. Only negative is that ride is a bit too firm for my tastes – so I just inflate at one or two PSI lower. Drive safe and happy, everyone, especially now !
Bought these as a replacement for General Altimax tires I previously had. I have a five speed transmission, and 2 problems were always present with the Altimax. First on wet hills where I had to stop it was very easy when engaging the clutch that the Altimax would spin. The Yokohama’s don’t. Second the Altimax were a bit soft, and average. The Yokohama’s give me more confidence with all aspects of driving. Would recommend these tires. I’ll buy them again.
I installed a set of these on my wife’s 2010 Camry three years ago and they work just fine on that car. I do a lot of highway driving, so when my 2015 Honda needed tires I decided to install a set on my car. The price was much better than the Michelins I typically buy for my Hondas so I thought this would be a good choice. Also the ratings were good, but I should have been more skeptical of the ratings. I would not recommend these for a Honda Accord. The tires after sitting overnight have what I can only describe as flat spots which create a rough feel transmitted through the steering wheel what does go away after the tires have warmed up, but still should not be present for new tires. Secondly, there is a pulling to the left that was not present when I had the Michelins on the car. I suspect a radial pull from the tire, due to it having a directional tread pattern. Because of this pattern, you can not simply switch the two front tires to see if it goes away. Thirdly, the tires did hydroplane while driving in a heavy rain on the NY turnpike. Having 12/32’s tread, there should not be this problem. Very disappointed in this. My wife’s Camry does not hydroplane no matter how much rain there is. Maybe the tire compound if different now that it was three years ago. Fourthly, the tires have soft sidewalls that will cause you to slow down on high speed turns such as freeway entry/exit ramps. Fifthly, these tires also have a rough ride feel on all road types. Wet or dry roads.Lastly, these tires produce much more noise than the Michelins on all road surfaces: worn blacktop, concrete, grooved pavement and new concrete/blacktop. I am very disappointed with these tires and will be returning them for an an exchange at the tire retailer who is aware of the situation. My opinion for anyone who reads this is to avoid this tire if you are trying to decide between these and Michelins. Spend the extra money and buy the Michelins instead.
I find this tire good but not great. It handles well enough, tread wear is good, and noise is acceptable. It’s fine in both wet and dry conditions. Overall, it didn’t wow me, and was a huge step down in handling from the BF Goodrich Comp 2 A/S I used to have on this car. I expect the wear on this to be better than the BF Goodrich set.
Only had these for a few days but very impressed so far. Very quiet and smooth. Drove in rain the other day and there was no slippage even in tight cornering. Will follow-up in a few months after doing some winter driving.
Great tire! Put these on my ’14 Camry and couldn’t be more impressed with them! Car is noticeably quieter and smoother. Traction is perfect for the Camry’s daily mission. Sure, it’s not a race tire, but then I’m not a race driver and Camry isn’t a sports car. Perfect tire for daily use around town and on the highway. Bad weather is no problem for these tires as well. Snow and rain are no match for them! Very impressed with these Yokohama’s!
