The g-Force Rival S 1.5 is BFGoodrich’s Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports car, performance sedan and sports coupe driving enthusiasts who want their tires tuned to lower their run times in solo, autocross, time attack and hill climb events.
The g-Force Rival S 1.5 is designed to raise the limits by delivering extreme grip that’s extremely predictable, with improved handling response over its predecessor. However, like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, it is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
A further evolution of the BFGoodrich Rival S, the Rival S 1.5 features an updated construction process aimed at increasing steering precision and transitional response. The Rival S 1.5 features the same tread compound as its predecessor, which is designed to offer maximum dry and improved wet grip, as well as offer quicker warm-up in competition conditions, yet continues to earn a 200 Treadwear rating in Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) testing.
This silica-infused compound is molded into an asymmetric, three-rib tread design. Large, solid outboard tread blocks and BFGoodrich’s Extreme Tread Edge (ETE) shoulder design wraps the tread compound farther down the sidewalls for predictable feedback and maximum cornering grip from start to finish. Lateral groove draft angles promote consistent performance and wear, while chamfered block edges resist feathering under extreme cornering and braking.
The tire’s internal structure features BFGoodrich’s Performance Racing Core reinforced internal structure that reduces flex to increase steering response. The tread is stabilized by twin steel belts and an Equal TEnsion Containment System (ETEC System) of spirally wrapped nylon to optimize the tire’s contact patch and traction at speed. g-Control sidewall inserts tune the sidewall stiffening to promote steering response.
Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.
Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Extreme Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

I bought a stock size, staggered set of 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 for my ’97 M3 in street class. They fit better (do not rub the front spring perch) and provide about equal width compared to the 245/45 and 255/40 RE-71Rs I ran last year. The BFGs do not have the same steering precision as the 71s. They are more tolerant of higher slip angles and recover quite quickly to going slightly over the limit of adhesion. Overall autocross times appear to be the same or better as compared to last year, for in class competition. I run on concrete and they appear to be wearing better than last years tires, with less of the groove of doom ( the tendency to chamfer the middle rib of the tread towards the outside of the front tires). I am probably going to flip the fronts after about 35 runs or so because of the center rib wear due to the usual camber challenged front strut suspension. They do take about 4-6 psi higher pressure to get the best temperature profile across the tire. Overall I am happy with them and will probably buy them again since they fit my car better. Whether they are better for you will probably depend on driving style and size.
Reviewed entirely for road course competition purposes only. These were purchased for day two of a WRL endurance race (9 hours) when we could not source RS4s on a 1999 Miata platform. TLDR: These are 100% autocross tires. When used on the track, they will go to grease within 2-3 laps. If you overdrive them, they take at least a lap to come back. They must babied and pampered (and not over driven) exactly on the limit, which yields somewhat decent and consistent times. However, any measure of abuse, and I mean ANY, and they will be trash until they cool off. If you were considering these for your track days, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. If you need a tire that provides decent grip when cool for a short period of time, it’s not bad..
I purchased this tire out of necessity. For the OEM wheels on my 2000 NSX (17″ and 16″ staggered), this is basically the only tire still offered. However I have been very surprised by how civilized this tire is on the road. The dry traction and cornering is great as expected. However when driving on the highway or in city traffic, this is a perfectly comfortable tire to use. I only take the NSX out when weather is good so can’t comment on how it behaves in wet driving. I wouldn’t have second thoughts about buying these again although I wish more options were available.
Replaced original Racing Harts 17’s with 16’s running these tires. Took about 3 to 4 seconds a lap off my autocross times.
dry performance is the best out of any uhp tire ive ever used. work fine on the street. a little noisey. not the best in heavy rain but perform fine on wet roads.
good tires for autocross , you can fet many runs as kong as you rate the tires.
These are dedicated track and auto cross tires for me, they do not see street use. Love them for the SCCA Street eligibility, and they are consistently fast as long as they don’t get too hot.
Used for SCCA Solo & NCCC events.BFG Rival S 1.5, So far, is a considerable improvement over last last years model. Used in wet and cool conditions with good response. Have not driven in hot conditions yet.
