The Pilot Alpin PA4 is Michelin’s Performance Winter / Snow tire developed to meet the needs of enthusiasts who may encounter snow-covered roads when they drive their ultra high performance sports cars, sedans or coupes during freezing temperatures, snow and ice. In addition to utilizing eco-focused manufacturing methods and enhancing vehicle fuel economy through low rolling resistance, as designated by Michelin’s Green X* branding, Pilot Alpin PA4 tires are designed to deliver secure driving year after year in cold, wet and wintry conditions.

Pilot Alpin PA4 tires feature a full silica-based, sunflower oil-enriched Helio Compound+ tread rubber that remains more flexible in low temperatures for better traction in cold conditions. This compound is molded into an asymmetric tread design that features a heavily grooved tread pattern, Michelin’s high-density Stabiligrip 3D sipe technology and wrap-around shoulder designs to enhance acceleration, braking and handling.

The tire’s internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by Michelin’s FAZ technology that places spirally wound filaments of polyester cord under the tread to combine stable feel, confident handling and high-speed capability with ride comfort.

Pilot Alpin PA4 winter radials meet the industry’s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Note: Snow platform indicators (the equivalent of “snow wear bars”) are molded into the Pilot Alpin PA4’s tread grooves to inform the driver when ice and snow traction will be reduced as the tire’s tread reaches the point where the remaining tread depth becomes less effective in deep snow.

Install Pilot Alpin PA4 tires in sets of four only.

Vehicles should always be equipped with equivalent tires at all wheel positions. These winter / snow tires, due to their exceptional snow and ice traction provided by their unique tread compounds, must be used in sets of four to help ensure proper vehicle control.

*Specific sizes featuring Green X technology are identified as such on the Sizes tab, as well as on the tire’s Specs tab.

Though they cannot be labeled as run-flat tires, tires branded with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls offer run-flat-like characteristics by delivering limited temporary extended mobility after a puncture results in complete loss of air pressure. Because MOExtended or MOE tires do not have the same speed and distance endurance of conventional run-flat tires, they should not be substituted in any situation where a conventional run-flat tire is required.   1. C7 collectors edition, Daily driver, 100 miles round trip on freeway.Pacific NW, so lots of rain. 4 days of snow this last year. YES, I drive my corvette in the snow! Averaged about 4” per snow day and melts away fast. Tires handled excellent! No traction loss. Real problems came from car being so low I was plowing the snow and had to slow a little or risk splitter damage. Wish I would have turned on my PDR and posted. These tires are definitely different than OEM. Non-run flat so much softer/better ride. When I first put them on it was much more common for my traction control to flash as I pulled into 2nd or cornered aggressively. Maybe break-in, but I still feel the performance loss.Definitely not running these in the summer. If your looking for a all year solution go withall season. As for track days, these are not allowed at my closest.

  2. I grew up in Minnesota where I learned the challenges of ice and moderate/deep snow driving. Was where I learned to “drift” corners and keep control of the car in such situations. Now I live outside of Philadelphia and had reservations about winter driving in my Subaru WRX Sti RA given its performance profile. Driving the stock low profile performance tires/wheels in the winter with east coast killer potholes everywhere was a No Go. So did my research onTireRack and connected with one of their consultants online that lead me to choose the Michelin’s newest snow and ice performance tires. I matched them to smaller 17 inch Sparco wheels to handle the pervasive potholes and could not be happier! Tire performance is incredible on snow and ice. No idea how their new rubber technology does it but is amazing, More sidewall depth prevents rim damage from pot holes, AND came with Road Hazard insurance at No cost! I regularly attend on-track performance driving events and understand the importance of good tires and impact on performance. Cannot wait to get this one on track and will certainly be getting my performance wheel/rubber package from TireRack as I have for my other cars. Michelin did Everything Right with this new tire!!

  3. My commute is 80 miles a day combined back roads and highways. Tires are very quiet and balanced perfectly. Handling is tight and outstanding traction through snow and slush. Changing lanes crossing through the center line slush ridge is easily controlled. During a stretch of sub zero temps, 12 inches of snow and no road salt these tires did an excellent job. Packed snow and black ice is no ones idea if a good day. These tires gripped the hard packed snow very well. On the ice, they did better than I expected and were way better than my prior Pilot A/S especially cornering.

  4. I waited until after I’d put some miles on these tires before writing this. All I can say is Wow! These tires are quite impressive. I’d run other brands of Summer & Winter tires (Con & Dun) but I recently tried my first set of Summer Michelins (Pilot Sport 4) and was so impressed I decided to give their snows a chance. I’m glad I did! These things respond like Summer tires in the dry, and in all but the hardest rain storms provide a stable, confidence inspiring ride. Not to say the wet performance suffers in heavy rain. Now that I’ve driven them through several snow events I’m happy to report that the level of performance did not waiver at all. In icy conditions, moderate to deep snow, these things grip and take me where i need to go. I’m sold on the brand and their technology. Well worth the price and certainly the security they provide is priceless.

  5. If you have a performance car and live in an area with occasional snow, these are good for ‘getting around’ while maintaining a sporty driving feel. They are incredibly smooth and comfortable to drive, and more responsive than most snow tires. However, if you are driving up and down snow covered mountains, deep snow, or ice-covered roads, these behave closer to an all-season tire than a true snow tire. Driving up mountains with AWD works well, and you will be passing most cars with all-seasons up-hill, but descending is very slippery and these don’t seem to have much if any more traction than a regular all-season. Since I drive over mountains in the winter, I won’t be going back to this, but if you are driving on flats with hardly any snow, these would be the tire for that.

  6. Finding snow tires that work for a 600 HP car is kind of hard…. Esp when living in the Northeast and going skiing every weekend in the northern sections of New England. In the past I have defaulted to using more traditional snow tires like Blizzak WS80, Michelin X-Ice etc. for those 10 time a year when real snow tires truly are a must. Took the leap to get a pair of these, performance snows, (or as they would be called in Europe: “Continental snows” – versus the traditional Scandinavian snows).Very, impressed. Dry road handling is close to the summer tires, but still a bit more squirmy. Wet handling is close to perfect. And with a very progressive let go when traction gives away. Snow traction is good, and the limit is the width of the tires in deep snow, and the limited ground clearance.Ice traction is very good, unless the ice is polished. But that applies to all studless tires.All in – excellent tire and highly recommended.
