Born on the track, the Eagle F1 Supercar 3R is Goodyear’s Streetable Track & Competition tire originally developed for the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and designed to deliver world-class handling, motorsports levels of traction and consistently fast laps. Like all summer tires, the Eagle F1 Supercar 3R is not intended to be serviced, stored, nor driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Utilizing polymers and resins previously only used in racing slicks, the tread compound of the Eagle F1 Supercar 3R was selected from multiple iterations after extensive on-track evaluation. The asymmetric tread pattern and geometry were optimized through computer modeling before track testing determined the final design, which has a massive, low-void outboard shoulder to provide extreme levels of lateral grip. The rigid, notched center ribs offer responsive, precise steering and longitudinal grip, and the lateral notches and circumferential grooves aid wet traction.
The internal construction of the Eagle F1 Supercar 3R is designed to be lightweight to enhance steering and handling precision. The two-ply, rayon casing utilizes a high turn up to improve handling response, resulting in a three-ply sidewall. The two wide, steel belts are reinforced by a single, polyamide reinforcement ply.
Warning: Eagle F1 Supercar 3R radials meet DOT requirements, however, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. This is especially true of shaved or worn tires.
Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.
Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Streetable Track & Competition tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking occurs as the result of improper use or storage, and Goodyear’s warranty specifically excludes tires exhibiting this condition from coverage. Any tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Founder at Tiresout. Used to be working as an engineer at Bridgestone Tires Akron Technical Center. The responsibilities included but were not limited to technical computing, indoor & outdoor testing of new tires.
After the first track day I couldn’t get home fast enough to take them off. After coming from a set of Trofeo R’s, I was to say the least disappointed. But, I figured I’d give them another try and I’m glad that I did. The second track day weather conditions were much better and the tires were able to operating temp and performed well. Not as good as the Trofeo R’s, but the R’s have a softer compound too, so they shouldn’t be as good. The next track day is in a few weeks and hopefully the weather will cooperate. I’ll report back afterwards
Might be a little unfair to call this a “Street” tire, On track this tire is fantastic, lateral grip and responsiveness feels alot like a toned down Hoosier R7. It comes up to temp quickly and seems to have a pretty wide effective range before it falls off. When it does fall all it’s relatively gradual. As for road manners, it’s awful if you’re trying to compare it to a regular street tire but if you understand what your buying then it’s tolerable. As for wet weather… well that’s a whole other conversation, when the tire was brand new it was sketchy but usable in the wet. After a track day on the tire I get nervous if someone spills a drink on the road ahead of me.
I put about 500 track miles on these tires. In my opinion, GY exceeded its target of matching the Cup2s. I have tracked a C7 Z06 with Cup 2s in a similar size and these were great. I was sharing the ZL1 1LE with another driver, and we were driving back to back in two run groups. We ran 35 PSI hot all around and the tires had phenomenal grip without getting greasy all weekend. These are definitely a contender for streetable track tires if you are looking at Cup 2s.
Although advertised as a street tire, it is basically useless for everyday use in almost any condition. To start with, the tire has very little grip until it warms up, (Chevy should’ve supplied ‘tire warmers’…). Once it has heated up, the grip is phenomenal… in dry mild weather. but againI quickly bought another set of wheels and tires for daily, and I’m saving these for the track. (I will be going to Prozes R888Rs for track use once the Goodyears are worn.)FYI – ZL1 wheels and tires will fit on a ZL1-1LE.
This has been my primary track tire setup for my ZL1 on Circuit of the Americas and it has performed much like a true racing slick. The tire was formulated for my big portly ZL1 and it does wear VERY fast on track, regardless of how much camber you dial into the suspension. This is a true track tire with a DOT approval stamp, do not buy this tire thinking it is for “spirited driving”, this tire is to be used on the track and safe enough to be driven home carefully. This tire does not like temperatures below 60 degrees and essentially turn to glass when they are cold even when the ambient temperature is over 70. This tire will cause wrecks if they are driven by someone who does not understand these are DOT racing slicks with tread grooves. All that being said, amazing track tire, unbelievable grip, seriously one of the best track tires I’ve driven on and I’ve driven on just about everything. The only step up from here is a true racing slick and that is IT, end of story. This tire beats the pants off the R888R, the NT01 and the Cup2 tire on the ZL1, again because it is formulated for this car and it’s weight. Those same tires on other cars may do better than this one, I’m not 100% sure.
This is a track tire and it does what it’s supposed to do very well. In dry conditions, it’s the best tire I’ve used. In wet conditions, it’s quite bad – so don’t use it in the wet! They do wear quickly but I typically get about 4 track days on them before the cords show. Great tire for what it’s designed to do.
So I have about 6K miles on these tires with 5 full track days and also driving on the street and they are ready to be replaced. All I have to say is ‘WOW!’. Although these do not last as long as the Cup 2s, they are definitely better in the dry and they are considerably less expensive. On track I was able to get almost a good second improvement on lap time. On the street they work well and do not wander as much as the Cup 2. Sound is louder but this is to be expected. I will definitely be buying another set.
