Passenger All-Season tires are for drivers who want a combination of a smooth ride, good wear and S- or T-speed rated durability along with all-season traction, including in light snow. Passenger All-Season tires branded with the M+S symbol are often used as Original Equipment (O.E.) on standard coupes, sedans and family vans, as well as some entry-level pickup, crossover and sport utility vehicles.
O.E. Passenger All-Season tires are typically purchased as direct replacements for worn-out pairs/sets of the vehicle’s original tires. Got these tires on a set of 16″ Subaru wheels from another Impreza owner who did not want them as he felt they were unusable in the winter. My car came with 17″ wheels with Avid S34 tires that were very noisy, despite that tire’s smooth center tread, so I am trying these 16s for the summer of ’14. So far, the car is much quieter with these, and after driving through heavy rain last week, felt they were very secure under those conditions. The cars rides very smoothly on the highway with these as well.Of course, with few sipes they must be considered summer tires here in the Northeast, and I would not pay $140 each to replace them with the same tires, but overall I like these much better than the 17s that came with this car.Come October, I will switch back to my winter tires as I would not want to get caught in a sudden snow storm with a tire that has such a smooth tread pattern.
My commute is 50mi 1 way on mostly highway, some city. Really decent tread life. The ride has never been the quietest or smoothest and has been getting worse over time with religious rotation/balancing. Not great for Minnesota driving conditions. Packed snow isn’t a huge problem. Slushy and wet stuff is some of the worst performance I’ve ever seen in a tire. I am honestly afraid every time during a heavy rain that I will slide right off the road. Hydroplaning happens all the time in not even the heaviest of rain conditions. Turning traction in slush and powdery snow is not great.
Came stock with new 2012 Impreza. I read reviews on these tires before even have laid my eyes on my car. I do not understand the hate. These are good tires. So far so good. I’m sure I can get better tires when I need to replace, choosing between Conti DWS and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
OEM tire on the Impreza, 0 complaints when the road is dry. Add water in any from and these tires begin to show their shortcomings. In the snow they seem to break loose when you attempt to turn, despite the traction to brake and accelerate, but very poor lateral grip.Noticed the same thing on wet and damp roads, braking and acceleration are fine, but attempt to turn and these tires throw a fit like a sugar loaded toddler. Will NEVER own another set of these tires, the poor grip in turns is a deal breaker in West Virginia.
I have placed 100,600 miles on these tires in the past two years. Most of my driving is country highway or interstate driving although I experience plenty of city / town driving on a daily basis. This is by far the best set of tires that I have experienced in my past 30 years of driving. Even with 70,000 miles on the tires, I was able to drive through months of heavy snow on my 50 mile one way commute on a daily basis. My only complaint is that they were never “quiet” tires and they have gotten worse over time but I consider this a minor complaint considering the traction and mileage I have been able to utilize.
Tire wears great. 30k miles OEM tire and still stupid amounts of tread left. I’ve seen the bridgestone potenzas last 30k then be replaced on conservative driving. These tires are really noisy and dont grip that well. I get a bit of understeer and squealing when trying to do any tight corners with any sort of speed. Even squeels when just doing sharp turns slowly. Only tire I’ve ever heard do that. Ride comfort is really nice, but I can’t stand the noise and reviews for other tires seem to have the same comforts while holding traction and reducing noise. So the only feature of the tire that is great is the tread life, but I can’t wait to replace them.
Ran these tires on my Impreza 4-door limited for two summers; were purchased from another Impreza owner as he felt they were horrible in winter. Total mileage as of today about 22,000 including his use of the tires. Inner tread worn nearly through, outer still OK. Am fitting my winter tires today. These tires were quieter than the similar Yokohama 17s that came with the car. Decent ride, no problems in the rain. Tread wear probably accelerates in summer, when the tread gets very soft on hot days. On cold days, the tread is hard as a rock, which probably explains why the winter rating is so bad with most drivers. Lucky there were no sudden October blizzards this year, as I wanted to keep them on until late November. Will replace with the Pirelli P7 all-season plus if I keep the car after the lease.
This set of tires came stock on my Impreza when I purchased it from the dealership. I’ve seen many people complain about this tire and I’m not sure what their driving styles or expectations are….I have nothing but praise to give to these tires. Was/still am surprised I’ve got 70,000 miles out of these. No I’m not the most aggressive driver but I’m also not an old folk driver, I drive within the conditions on the road. I make many trips up to Northern MN during all times of year, no matter the weather conditions if I’ve planned the trip….I’m going! Yes, the car tends to ‘push/understeer’ on icy roads in turns but that’s expected (at I tend to plan/think ahead what I may encounter in corners and act accordingly). So what my 2 cents is worth….I would run away from purchasing these again, but I’m also going to do some more research on my next set of tires (which will probably be needed come this next spring). Main thing I remind people, your AWD purpose is mostly for starting traction and forward momentum. You still need to be smart going into turns and when icy…..it won’t stop you faster than the others with 2WD!
