The AVID Ascend featuring T-speed rated sizes is Yokohama’s first mass-produced Standard Touring All-Season tire line in the United States using Yokohama’s Orange Oil technology and branded with their BluEarth eco-friendly identification. Developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossover vehicles, the AVID Ascend is designed to blend long treadwear, low rolling resistance and all-season traction, even in light snow.

Yokohama BluEarth branding is used to identify an ecologically friendly series of tires that are designed to deliver environmentally, human and socially friendly solutions for drivers and their vehicles.

Orange Oil technology uses oil extracted from renewable orange peels to improve the molecular bond between natural and synthetic rubber to enhance tire treadlife, vehicle fuel efficiency and traction in all seasons.

The AVID Ascend features a mildly asymmetric tread design consisting of three ride zones that focus on dry grip, water evacuation and wintertime traction. Large outboard shoulder blocks are connected by tread block bridges to maintain tire contact with the road that helps enhance dry response and cornering stability. The continuous center rib provides constant rubber-to-road contact to enhance straight-line tracking while its tapered outboard edge promotes more-even wear. Cross grooves and four circumferential grooves help evacuate water from under the tread to increase hydroplaning resistance and promote wet traction. Yokohama’s 3D Adaptive Sipes provide more tread block rigidity for longer wear, while their biting edges increase wet and wintertime traction. Inboard tread blocks feature higher density 3D Adaptive Sipes to provide additional biting edges that increase winter traction in light snow.

  1. Went off the recommendation of a co-worker that these were good tires to get. I found that after I had them install them traction wet & dry is terrible – Tires spin from a dead stop even when being conservative. I don’t recommend that anyone purchase these tires!!

  2. Been a year and a half on this tire. 35,000 miles. The tread is a little more than half gone at this point. They are quiet, good summer tires. Decent turning, good traction, great stopping on the mini-van. They don’t sway, very stable. It’s not meant for heavy rain, so expect some hydroplaning at speed, it does fine on light rain. Not meant for snow or ice. I’ve had it on ice with half tread and it was as could be expected from a summer type tire. Great tire for a dry/warm climate like the SW, S, and SE states.

  3. Got a hole in the sidewall that couldn’t be repaired. So with 69,000 miles on these tires, I opted to put an identical set of these on my Prius C. They performed just fine, so bought them again.

  4. I bought these Avid Ascends after the original Dunlops had one of the tires tear the bead on the edge of the tire. They had 34000 and could have gone a bit longer but I decided to go for the best tire I could find in the size. The Yokohama tires were very good, MPG was 41-43 on the highway. Traction was good. I live in Texas so no snow here so no opinion on that. They lasted to 50000 and were replaced and prorated since this is a 85000 tire. I had only one flat an pinhole leak in the sidewall at 43000. They were at 3/32 and 2/32nd at the end (except the new tire). I replaced them with the same product with proration price. This is a good tire I don’t drive real hard at all. Just don’t expect to get to 85000 but they were good tires until that end point. The Fit is a not a quiet car on the highway but I don’t think the tires made it any worse. Traction was decent.

  5. Currently went through a set of these on our family beater, the ’04 Accord Coupe and am pleased with the tires characteristics. These tires have lasted 30,000 miles (3.5 yr) + and just today we got a flat from road debris so I decided to order 2 more for one end since the other 2 on rear are in great condition still. These tires wear really well properly maintained and under regular driving conditions.

  6. Excellent tire. With that being said don’t expect it to perform in winter conditions on the level of a specialized snow tire. I drive 72 miles a day five days a week and I barely even notice any road noise from these. They handle very well in any condition except snow and ice (even then its more driver than tire) and do very well in the rain. I’ve had them for almost 50,000 miles and 2.5 years now and of the four I purchased the most worn is at 5/32 while the least is at 8/32; I admittedly don’t get my tires rotated every 7,500 miles as I’d be there every five months. I’m sure with proper rotation and proper inflation (I only put air in if my TPMS tells me to. Again, driver not tire) they would wear evenly. The roll resistance is also very low making these a good choice for a small hybrid like mine; I get 38-42 MPG in winter and 42-45 MPG in summer. All in all a good choice if you’re looking for consistency and longevity.

  7. The car is running 90% highway. 86,000 miles later, tires still have roughly 4.5/32″ left. Pretty impressed. I believe I can squeeze another 5-10k out of it but might replace before the winter. Wear evenly if you rotate every 5k per the car manual. MPG is the same as the stock Ecopia EP20. Increased MPG when hitting 5/32″ but that’s normal for worn tires. Snow traction is OKish. Ice traction is not that good, have to be very gentle to avoid sliding. Wet traction is good. Driven in Oklahoma heavy rain and strong wind and still hold the road at 70mph with no traction control needed, but will not do that again since the tire is already kinda worn. . Will definitely buy again.

  8. Just the kind of tire a big ol’ Buick needs – soft, plush and squishy. These tires are like riding on carpet – especially on the highway. Road reflectors and expansion joints, when run over with the old, hard Uniroyals that came with the car, would echo through the car with a resounding “BOOMP-BOOMP. Now, with these Yokos installed, the same road items produce a barely audible “thp-thp” sound. So comfy. Traction is a non-issue with these tires – even in Florida’s typical afternoon downpours. Deep puddles will slightly overwhelm complete water evacuation, but nothing that would cause loss of control, especially with such a heavy car. And while highway driving with these tires is amazing, around town they feel a little vague, especially in steering response. Not a huge deal since there’s no high speeds involved, but the car may be more to blame here then the squishy Yokos are.Overall, I’m a fan. These tires made a Buick feel like a Buick again (whether that’s a good thing or not, you decide), but I would definitely buy these tires again for this car. They just fit.

  9. Replaced a set of Yokohama AVID Envigors with these and so far I am pleased with them. Handling hasn’t suffered as badly as I thought it would going to a higher treadwear tire. Noise levels are low and cornering is nearly as good as the Envigors but with much better treadwear.Overall, I am very pleased with them so far and will probably go with another set when these are done. I love Yokohamas and love the fact that they are Made in the USA.

  10. The tires Yokohama Ascend that I have purchase with in the last month were the best chose from tire rack the customer service has handle all things dealing with the tires.the people that has dealt with some issue has done a outstanding job. Tread quarters were the company that was in the know on the tire issue and handle this outstanding. This tread quarters is in Yorktown va 23692 the managers are Dana and Jim the mechanic was Jason they have given the personal service and attention to the car and tires.

  11. My car is a hybrid, I drive nearly 4,000 miles every month for my business, and I care most about durability and reliability. I have gone through two sets of these tires, and, unbelievably, each set has lasted nearly 90,000 miles. Granted, my car is lighter than most, and I drive conservatively most of the time, because in order for me to earn a living I have to keep a good driving record, so I do not put a heavy load on my tires most of the time, but this is by far the best longevity of any tires I have ever driven. These tires give me very good handling and excellent cornering stability on dry roads. They are still quite good on wet roads. Snow and ice traction is only so so, but I am extra careful under those circumstances. Highly recommended. I definitely plan to order another set, and soon.

  12. Actually reviewing the AVID TRZ tires that are no longer an option. Tires were a huge improvement over the OEM Michelin LX4 tires from a traction and wear perspective. Good overall performance in the Mid-Atlantic region and the tires were quite good in light snow and plowed roads. Tires are now nearing the end of their life and are noticeably noisier. I would consider these again, but now they are no longer made. Will consider the Michelin Defenders or new Yokohama Avid Touring S.

  13. I use this hot rod wagon for commuting mostly on country roads, so I wanted quiet, long life tires that didn’t perform poorly. I don’t know how long the tires will last, but they are very quiet. There was a little chirping around corners, but that quickly went away. On twisty country roads these tires are more fun than I expected. These tires on my rear wheel BMW are better in the snow than my wife’s Mazda3 with fairly new Michelins, which is surprising. I bought these tires when there were almost no reviews yet, and I am glad I did.

  14. Put these on my Infinity with sport package. Car specs don’t recommend downgrade to T rated tire. But wanted something quieter and longer lasting. Love these. T rated just fine and I see no difference. And these things are wearing great along with great handling. Great tire and great price.

  15. I bought my 2007 Chevy Impala LT 3.9 V6 used. They came new with these tires. Boy, are the junk. Very poor traction in the snow, ice & rain. The tires are very loud at all speeds. The tread wear is horrible. The side walls are cracking on all four. Gas mileage poor with the tires. I highly don’t recommend any Yokohama’s to anyone. I will go back to either Coopers, Generals or Uniroyal’s.

  16. I have 35k miles on this set, so I’ll give my review. Past two sets of tires for this vehicle were the excellent Yokohama TRZ in the same size. This tire is great on wear resistance, good on dry traction, and good on noise. However, in the wet it is downright scary. My car’s light weight might be a factor in the ease of hydroplaning, but the TRZs did fine. Fortunately it doesn’t rain often in my area. But I’m picking another model for my next set because of this problem.

  17. Maybe it is just me. But I have only driven my usual routes, yet I have had to have one tire replaced (nail in side wall) and one tire plugged (separate incident), and I have only had them 12,000 miles on mostly country road and highways. I drive a lot and have needed tires repaired before but seems odd enough to mention. I live in North Carolina, just down the mountains so snow doesn’t really happen where I live, but great response in rain, and varied loads are no issue (160lb and 180lb service dogs and 4 200lb Men). The tires have worn well, or at least the three originals look no different than the new one. My fuel economy which I watch with both a gage and calculate every fill up, remained unchanged despite the low rolling resistant claims. I have driven in a snow ice mix in the mountains, and in Ohio and I must say I had more confidence with my old tires. The ride is also kind of rough. I would not recommend these unless, like me you live in the deep south, can tolerate a rougher ride, and need a tire that will last 80,000 miles even with loads that vary by 1000lbs. Because of my needs I would buy this tire again. I hope this helps someone else make the right choice for their needs.

  18. I was disappointed in that my last set of old Dunlops that were on the car when I purchased it were quite noisy, I had hoped that these would ease the problem. But they didn’t even come close. In fact, they may be louder. It’s like driving a HumV with knobby tire everywhere. The radio needs to be cranked up to sort of drown them out. The rolling resistance seems to be high too as my mileage has noticeably dropped off too. I just go them and got to drive in many conditions and the performance is okay. Not great but no problems. I have to wonder if my car is part culprit in the noise levels. May switch the fronts to another pair of Michelins to see if that helps.

  19. Drove nearly 40,000 miles on the tire (combination of highway and local roads). Tread wear is OK, but need to replace them after 40,000 miles (they are rated for 80,000).Dry traction is very good (even after some wear). they provide very good steering response and cornering stability. Never had any issues with hydroplaning but wet traction is very low. Car would skid even in normal acceleration condition (redlight, stop sign etc.)Ice and Snow traction is especially bad, probably the worst tires I had ever drove with. Even without any wear, there was literally no traction under these conditions. Hit an icy patch on highway and these tires gave me an absolute nightmare when I lost total control of the car. Avoid at all costs if driving in icy/snowy conditions.

  20. I replaced the OEM tires (worn out at 25,000 mi) on my Lexus ES350 with these and couldn’t be happier with them. I drive about 40,0000 miles a year almost all highway and these tires are perfect. Still not even close to wearing out at 50,000 miles!

  21. I have had these tires for about a year now and they have worn wonderfully thus far. The dry performance is fantastic, and wet performance is nearly as good. The only factor playing into the performance of the tire negatively would be the fact that I drive a small car. The Toyota Corolla is very light and easily manipulated by weather factors, however the tire itself is a great supplement to control, stability and an otherwise noisy cabin sound. They are quiet, provide great handling, and with a pretty high mileage warranty, should prove durable. I would buy these same tires for any vehicle given an exceptional price point for the quality of tire. The one downfall I would denote is the hydroplaning resistance and ice handling. I would not fault the tire on it, considering it is likely more the small car I drive than the tire itself, and the fact that the tire is an all season, not winter/snow. All things considered, a perfect upper middle tier tire. Not going to compete with the Michelins out there, but for the price, I would go with these every time.

  22. I experienced three tire separations over the course of about three weeks. 75% failure rate at 20k miles. Yes, Yokohama did refund some dough, about 2/3 of the original price, however, given that nearly all the tires went bad, I would have expected more from them. When contacted they required receipts for all the tire rotations before they would even talk to me (I did my own rotations that they would not accept my data). NO MORE YOKOHAMAs for me, I put on Michelin Defenders.

  23. Absolutely the VERY worst set of tires I have ever driven. If you like a thrill ride, take these for a spin in any reduced traction conditions. One slipped a belt about 12kmiles in and since I drive a lot I just let it go. Wasn’t sure I had a problem until a year in when the warranty expired. The tire started losing chunks of tread around 20k miles and has been a daily thorn in my side. I saw no change in mileage switching to these but did notice a terrifying reduction in traction over the OE tires. I do not believe that most of these reviews are for the low rolling-resistance Yokohama Avid Ascend. These tires are just plain dangerous in any low-traction situation. DO NOT BUY THEM IF YOU EVER DRIVE ON ANY SNOW OR ICE. I live on a 17% grade hill in New England. I never had trouble making it up the hill until I bought these junk tires. JUNK!

  24. I’ll leave the handling and traction reviews to the professionals. I have not had to test either one, and don’t plan on it. However, I do want to say that these tires have made my wife’s car much nicer to drive. I don’t like her car, but I love her tires. They are quiet and soft riding even at 45psi. Heck, they may be at 55psi now that summer is here, and I have not had a chance to let some air out. I hope these last as long as my avids. My avids have 40k miles and look to last until I reach 80k. We don’t participate in the daily rat race, so cannot comment on handling or traction when abused by the engine or weight of the car.

  25. This tire is a no brainer. Get this tire. Do not hesitate. Don’t even look at other brands. This tire will outperform all the competition. How can you argue with high quality at a low cost? SLOW wearing tread. Comfortable ride. Great handeling. Again, it’s a no brainer. Get these.

  26. Very impressed with the Yokohomas.Car had Goodyears as the original tires, but I am much happier with the Yokohomas.First of all, much quiter. On some roads, I could not talk on the phone because tire noise was so loud. I can now use the phone with my Yokohomas.Very pleased and will buy again.Previous reviews say tread lasts much longer, so it may be a while before I buy another set.Oh, and Tire rack had them at the best price. If you have a Prius C, I strongly encourage you to try the Yokohomas.

  27. I bought a set of these to get rid of some junk Falken ZE-329s. What a difference, the ride is quiet, the tire is composed even on a heavy FWD car with somewhat mushy suspension. I had an alignment done at the same time which I HIGHLY recommend on any GM W-Body car as they love to lose toe settings quickly (20k). Many Impala / Grand Prix / Regal / Monte Carlo owners will complain of poor tire wear usually because the alignment is out and they don’t know about it. Just a consequence of the platform I suppose. These tires really put the confidence back in my car. Even on light un-plowed snow on back roads they perform well as long as you drive like a decent person. Any all season is never going to be a performer in the snow, but these will get you there. I don’t care they are T rated myself, but had to do some research before I reached that conclusion.

  28. I drive a 2011 Honda Insight and while have a LRR tire was a priority, I just wanted to ensure I largely had a tire that was more green and had high treadwear ratings. I work as a visiting nurse (RN) and for my present role here in CT, I’m on the road daily and all over the state as well, putting on upwards of 800-1100 miles a month just for work alone. I had fair luck and experiences with the OEM Dunlop tires but they were worn out and I happened across these Yokohama Avid Ascends. I was thrilled with the warranty coverage, the reviews, the treadwear ratings, and of course the price was extremely reasonable. While I live in New England, I cannot rate these tires for winter since being a visiting nurse and dealing with potentially harsh New England winers, I always use snow tires given my essential employee status and need to have good traction. However, I have had these tires for the Summer into Fall of 2016 and have already put on over 20,000 miles and I still have just about full treadwear left, wear has been very even, and the ride is very smooth and quiet. I have found them to be overall very good on traction in dry and wet conditions especially considering CT has many back country roads that are very windy and in the rain, they can be scary but I feel extremely confident with these on my wheels. My gas mileage has increased overall about 1-2 miles more per gallon compared to my original OEM Dunlops but again, I feel much of the MPG on cars, while dependent on environmental factors and the engine itself and tires, is largely dependent upon how one drives the car, too. All in all, I would absolutely purchase these again should they still be available in the future … it may be a while before I need new All Seasons as these seem to be holding up very well!

  29. Disclaimer: I’ve driven mostly “sportier” tires my whole driving life. Tried to buy a “Normal” average all season tire for once, and this is the worst tire I have ever driven on. I believe it is a tread designed issue. But, the car NEVER tracks strait at all, anymore. It is constantly pushing or pulling left and right at slow speeds, highway speeds, as if lots of wind were smacking it around. If the high way has those grooves, it can dart about 6 inches off within 20 feet at 70mph. I’m litterally glued to the steering wheel now, making micro corrections. If I look away for a half second I could be heading for the rumble strips on the side when I look back. I don’t know if all average Joe tires are like this and everyone is just used to it, but these are the scariest tires I’ve ever had on. During install, I had Honda check/fix alignment and it was a pinch off, but now the car feels like maybe they loosened every bolt on my suspension. Just normal driving I can feel the REAR of the car track out left or right a little bit, like it has rear wheel steering. That has got to be the tread just slopping around. Perhaps I am more sensetive than most for the feel of my car and its handling, but I’ve never encountered tires that didn’t easily track strait. I’m past my return time now, and I did not get them from TireRack, but I plan to go back to Honda and have them check everything again. Just got back from a 400 mile, white knuckled highway trip and my wrists and arms hurt from the constant correction. I guess maybe I should always get sportier tires with known good tread design and much stiffer sidewalls for solid handling. These have weak sidewalls, and maybe that leads to teh contact patch squirming, but I’ve had weak walls before with strait tracking. The fact the rear end is going its own direction points to tread design, I feel. Maybe these will work for others, but I would never buy again. I may TOSS these and get new tires. They feel unsafe.

  30. I bought these tires to replace the nearly worn out Turanza EL400s that came on my used CRV. The EL400s were terrible. Hydroplaned constantly and quite noisy. These Yokahamas are fantastic! Living in the Mid-Atlantic region I’ve had quite a winter to test these guys! Light snow traction is excellent and deep snow traction is very good. I’ve been able to get around in as much as 4-5 inches of snow accumulation with little detriment to acceleration or braking. Steering degrades when making turns tighter than, say, 30 degrees, but especially if you’ve got AWD, these guys will get you home in most conditions!Due to the “Polar Vortex” I’ve also got plenty of experience driving these tires in single digit temps. I expected they’d really stiffen up due to the long treadwear compound, but they’ve been great at low temp driving too! My commute involves mostly 50-55 mph back-roads that I drive at 10-over typically and they never get squirly in turns at any temp! Truly noteworthy for an 80k mile warranty tire. I have also driven these tires in 2 torrential downpours since mounting. Visibility became a restriction long before traction did in both cases. Very good hydroplaning resistance! The only downside I’ve seen to these tires is my fuel economy has dropped about 15% since tire install early last November (4 months ago). Since this was about the time we switch to winter blend fuels I’ll be eager to see if this drop was more tire or fuel blend related. We’ll be switching back to summer blends in another month or so and my fuel economy tracking should tell the story. I mounted these on my rims myself and can definitely say the tires are heavier than the EL400s that came off. That may account for some of the drop right there, but I’m hoping it makes for a stronger tire as well. After 7000 miles of driving I’ve got about 10/32nds remaining all-around (this includes 1 rotation with full-sized spare) and wear has been even across the tread. So far so good!
