High Performance Summer tires are for drivers who want a combination of a sporty appearance, predictable handling and H- or V-speed rated durability along with dry and wet traction. Often used as Original Equipment (O.E.) on sports cars, sporty coupes and performance sedans, High Performance Summer tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

O.E. High Performance Summer tiresare typically purchased as direct replacements for worn-out pairs/sets of the vehicle’s original tires. They can also be used for other vehicle applications incomplete sets of four or axle pairs if available in an appropriate size, load range and speed rating to match the existing O.E. tires’ performance category andspecifications.

  1. The MX-5 only has 300 miles and no experience on wet roads yet. Between the suspension and tires, this car is glued to the road. The ride is smooth with little tire noise at highway speeds.

  2. Worst tire Ive ever had. Is fitted as OEM on European Mazda MX-5. Although I have a spirited driving style, after 30000 miles threadwear is still 50%. Tire is too hard, doesnt stick to the ground, and even worse during wet weather conditions (which we have enough in Belgium). General: not recommended for a sportscar. Threadwear is very good.

  3. Tires now have over 22000 miles. Getting noiser and balder by the day. Tires still stick pretty well. Ive had Miatas since 1992 and I usually get at least 28000 miles. Ill be trying Genral UHPs next time. If anything gives me more than 30000 miles Ill be happy.

  4. These are the same tires as stock and the car simple “feels right” with them. Good cornering; can induce oversteer with the throttle, and control it pretty easily. I’ve gone to dedicated winter tires, so may get something less winter friendly for the other 3 seasons.

  5. Nice OEM tire. It was a good choice my Mazda to make these the OEM tire. They really make the car hug the corners. The wear is above average and even. I rotate every 3000 miles. When I polish I do the inside of the rims so they’re off the care anyway. This has helped them to wear flat. No feathering at all. Quiet for a performance tire, too. Not sure if I could find a better tire to replace them with so I may just replace them with the same. So far I’m happy with them so it would not be an issue replacing with the same tire.

  6. OEM tires on my 2011 Miata. Sure-footed, great traction. Have worn extremely well. I also have Yokohama (YK-580s) on my Subaru Forester (2nd set). Very hard to beat Yokohama tires for reliability and durability, coupled with smooth and quiet ride.

  7. The Yokohama Advan A11A tires came from the factory on my 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata. I replaced them at 27,232 miles on those tires with tread slightly below 3/32nds. On the positive side, the tires provided a very quiet and comfortable ride with secure traction for stopping abruptly when needed. However, the tread was way too squirmy for my taste from 10/32nds to 5/32nds. I might have replaced them at that point, but I started to enjoy the handling at 5/32nds. Control in the rain was good enough until 4/32nds, at which time I stopped driving the car when rain was predicted. In the winter I use a set of Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3, a performance winter/snow tire for which I found the traction in both dry and wet to be superior to the Yokohama Advan A11A. I have replaced the Yokohamas with a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires, which is an upgrade to an Ultra High Performance Summer category. In short, I love driving my Mazda MX-5 Miata, but I wish I had replaced the stock tires as soon as I bought the car.

  8. These tires came OEM on my new Miata and so far they have confirmed Mazda’s choice. I’m retired so no commuting is involved; I mostly drive the car for fun on weekdays when my favorite Texas Hill Country roads are empty and inviting. They allow me to drive deep into corners without fear that they’ll let go at an inappropriate moment. This is my second Miata, but my first ever set of UHP summer tires. I’ve yet to test them in the rain (kinda droughty here at the moment) but in the dry I am very pleased. Can’t comment on wear yet, but the tread looks unscathed despite my aggressive driving. Comfortable when driving with my wife to brunch, noise is not excessive, tho I do tend to have the top down most of the time, so who knows? I can’t commit to another set until I see how quickly they wear, but given that I drive 6-8k miles a year, that may take a while. Very happy so far.

  9. This was OEM for my car. While I agree with others this is a superb tire for summer driving, for wet or dry, in the Northeast, from NC and up, you’ll encounter cold spells just before full winter and just before spring that would make these tires iffy to drive. We’ve even had winter cold spells as far down as central Fl. It does say in the documents not to drive it lower than 40F and they weren’t kidding. Twice I spun out, both in the first 10,000 mi just doing 20 mph on a cold patch of road. Under the same conditions my cheapo Corolla and its cheapo tires could run safely without a care. This was my first all summer tire ever. I put 45,000 on them and thread was still legal when I let them as I do like driving the MX5 on clear, snow or ice free winters days and these tires were not made to do so.
