The Solus TA31 is Kumho’s Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of sporty coupes, sedans and crossover vehicles. It’s used as Original Equipment on the Chrysler 200, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Soul urban crossover vehicles. Solus TA31 tires are designed to blend responsive handling, long wear and a comfortable ride with all-season traction, even in light snow.

Kumho’s all-season tread compound is molded into a five-rib symmetric design featuring a continuous center rib flanked by notched intermediate ribs and large shoulder blocks to deliver predictable handling, year-round traction and even wear. Four circumferential grooves and lateral notches promote hydroplaning resistance by evacuating water from under the footprint while engineered sipes increase the number of biting edges needed to enhance wet road and wintertime traction.

The tire’s internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon on top of a polyester cord casing to blend strength, durability and ride comfort.

  1. Kumho tires…the Best I’ve ever owned!! 98,000 miles and I finally need a new set!! I really can’t believe it! I drive 1,000 miles a week for Lyft and am astounded they lasted this long!

  2. For a Tire that was $70 per tire at my local tire shop, it has performed better than I expected, (especially compared to other reviews). I will agree that the winter performance is abysmal. Does okay in very light snow with very little ice build up. When the ice starts to set in say goodbye to traction, especially on hills. To get an idea where I drive, the lower Seattle area is my grounds. I stick mostly to city streets due to my commute. My dry traction, cornering stability, and steering response are right in line with everyone else. Even with a car that has body roll. The Wet performance is better than average due to how I drive in the wet weather. I don’t drive as aggressively in the wet as in the dry. I have not had a problem with hydroplaning or the feeling of lost control or grip when driving. If I had a more aggressive approach to driving in the rain I feel like my opinion would be different. As of this review, the tires are at 8/32’s with around 15,000 miles on them. I will say that my driving mileage during the two years of ownership is about 7,500 miles per year. I feel like that has equated to my tread life being better than the rest. I have recently changed how much I drive and I think will see tire wear that is more in line with the status quote. In conclusion, the Kumho TA 31 tire is an okay to good tire in climates that are mostly dry year round. If you can If you get any constant amount of snow/ice in your area, please consider an All-season tire with a more aggressive tread pattern or a winter set. Would I buy this set again for my area? Probably not due to the lackluster winter performance. I do not have space to store a dedicated winter set. Due to snow accumulating in the greater Seattle area in the last few years will probably go with an All-season tire with a more aggressive tread pattern.

  3. These are the worse tires ever. Unless you live in pure sunshine, no rain or snow do not get these. These were placed on a newer used Toyota Camry XLE by dealership. When I saw them, I asked to have them taken off and pay for better ones and they would not. Man, no traction at all in ANY type of light snow or rain. These are the first tires that actually make me AFRAID to drive in any other condition except perfect sunshine weather. Now, with 16,000 miles of city and hwy driving in one year, two tires are at 5/32 and two are at 7/32. These are tires to STAY AWAY from. I have researched the warranty and hopefully will be able to get some money back on newer GOODYEAR WEATHERREADY or Continentals. Do not purchase these tires at all!

  4. This tire is great in dry conditions. If there’s anything on the road, though, traction goes out the window. Cornering on wet roads is much better than trying to drive at all in ice or snow, however. I can’t wait for these tires to wear out so I can replace them with some that can actually handle weather. To be fair, I wouldn’t have them if they hadn’t come on the car – I would have gone with something like the Cooper CS5 Touring, which handle well in all conditions.

  5. OEM on 2018 Optima EX. Have 18,545 on them and the tread is half gone already. They hydroplane, slip around in snow, are loud and the treadwear is pathetic. I can’t wait to get rid of them and wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy. Junk!

  6. Been driving on these TA31’s for 2 summers and 1 winter now. Im very impressed with them. Great in the summer and i was very impressed with how they handled the snow. I would definitely recommend them and would buy them again.

  7. The Kumho tires were the original tires bought with my Soul. The ride was very quiet and smooth; barely felt the road. Traction is very good as well. After 60k miles, the tread is beginning to show wear. My only drawback found on these tires is the inability to hold tire pressure. I find myself adding air every 2-3 weeks (depending on how much I drive). If not for this problem, they would receive 5 of 5 stars from me
