The Ultra Grip Winter is Goodyear’s Studdable Winter / Snow tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, as well as sport utility vehicles and passenger-oriented light-duty pickup trucks. Designed to offer high levels of traction in cold wintertime temperatures, Ultra Grip Winter radials are molded to accommodate the use of optional metal studs to increase traction on hard-packed snow and ice.

Ultra Grip Winter radials feature a winter compound molded into a directional tread design that enhances cold weather flexibility and helps evacuate water on wet and slush-covered roads. Strong shoulder blocks promote dry road stability and even treadwear. Wide tread grooves help evacuate loose snow and slush to enhance wintertime traction while multiple sipes increase the number of biting edges to improve grip on ice and snow. Alternating rows of optional metal studs can be added in the shoulder and intermediate tread blocks to increase traction on hard-packed snow and icy roads.

Goodyear Ultra Grip Winter tires meet the industry’s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Install Ultra Grip Winter tires in sets of four only.

Molded to accept optional TSMI #12 silver-colored metallic winter studs.

  1. Last year, I was on the third season of my General Altimax snow tires with studs, when they started leaking around the studs. I pulled one stud and put in a plug. Another one started leaking, and then the tire on the other side. I just kept them aired up through the rest of the season and threw them away. I considered an inner tube, but I was rather tired of the noise from the studs anyway. This year, my tire guy Damon, steered me to the Goodyears. Initially, I had been thinking about going to “studless” but there just wasn’t anything available in my size. I am not complaining, but It took awhile, but I finally got a chance to drive them in snow. If I didn’t get to try them out all season, I would have just figured it didn’t snow because I had new snow tires on my car. When the tires arrived, I was pleased by the width of the space between blocks. I noticed that the compound was very soft. I figured they would be good in snow at that point, and indeed they were. I have had little chance to use them on ice, but if they are that good on snow, they should at least be better than all-seasons on ice.I really like these tires. In a two words, they go and they stop. I really didn’t have anywhere to see how they cornered. All I know is I ran off and left everybody else.

  2. we average over 100″ of snow per year here in the snow belt of ohio. all 4 of the family vehicles are equipped with good year ultra grip tires and nothing else. family members had no idea how spoiled they were until they drove other cars with all season tires. every one they were uneasy driving without the good year ultra grip tires and the road conditions were not too bad. the good year ultra grip tires performed outstanding in the worst blizzard conditions. acceleration, braking & turning was superior, providing a feeling of confidence and safety. in the average conditions when all the cars on the road can barely move, sideways or other, we drive as if it was barely wet.people look at us scratching their heads trying to figure out why they cannot move & we fly by like it was a dry summer day. we will NOT be without good year ultra grip tires on our family vehicles ever again! we had blizzaks on one vehicle a few years ago when the ultra grips were not available in the correct size. I was shocked when my wife complained that the new snow tires (blizzaks) stunk. I didn’t think she’d know the difference, more or less even notice as she is usually oblivious to most “car” things. Luckily we only had that vehicle one more winter so I didn’t have to hear about the crappy snow tires for another winter season.

  3. I got these tires 3 years ago, my first snow with my old stock tires, my car got stuck in 3 inches of snow, so I did my research, switched to these tires and been good ever since. I know most people say I should take them off after winter and put them back on before the next winter, but I don’t have extra tires and rims, so I just left them on, sometimes I hear the treading while driving, most times I don’t. handles great in snow, I have no worries at all, even uphill, once the tires grip., smooth sailing after that. Last night I got a flat, its been 3 years so I just purchased a replacement. didn’t even think twice about it, love this tire. what —-s for me is that its going to snow again before my replacement gets delivered. maybe when I get paid i’ll order another to keep spare of. my commute is about 100 miles a day. with these tires I feel 100% safe in any weather.

  4. Used these tires on my wife’s car for five winters: although the CR-V is AWD, she wanted more peace of mind, since she drives our girls around a lot. Only reason we got new snows was that the noise level had increased, and we thought we could find something quieter.

  5. Good value and very good winter tire. Replaced an older version of Blizzaks and there wasn’t much difference in winter performance.

  6. We have these tires mounted on a separate set of rims, so they are bolted on to the car as needed. In total, they’ve seen about 1,200 miles so far. Their performance is very admirable. They tolerate temperatures over 40F pretty well unlike the Blizzaks which are very edgy in warmer temperatures. These Goodyears excel when it is below 30F. Dry traction is solid as expected especially in colder temperatures, but dry traction is not why a person would be interested in these tires. The hydroplaning resistance is the best I’ve seen out of a winter tire I’ve used–Blizzaks, General, Cooper and previous Goodyears. The light snow traction is exceptional. The straight-line deep snow driving is very, very good. The lateral stability and feedback from the tires on cornering is predictable and very good. Braking inspires a lot of confidence under snowy conditions. The performance in slush and on wet roads is amazing. We just had an event with 3″ of snow and lots of slush, and the tires were phenomenal all-round. The ice performance is marginally better than other snow tires from what we’ve seen. Studs would make a difference here, but would be detrimental in other areas.Noise is not intrustive and comparable to an aggressive all-season tire.Even if the car gives the sense of predominant under or oversteer, the tires hold the car in line. Any time the front or back end gets out of shape due to an over-inspired driver, it is easily brought back under control. I would not hesitate to buy these tires again. Most importantly, my wife loves them since she drives on many county roads that don’t see a lot of TLC during winter weather.
