The Potenza RE-71R is an Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan driving enthusiasts looking for Bridgestone’s fastest DOT-legal street radial. Starting with a clean-sheet approach and a virtual slick tread, all of the design features were fine-tuned to maximize performance, traction, handling and control.
Performance-tuned for dry and damp conditions, the Potenza RE-71R, like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, are not intended to be serviced, stored or driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.
Potenza RE-71R tires employ a newly developed tread compound that enhances grip by increasing contact with the road surface. This compound is molded into a directional tread design featuring a continuous center rib flanked by massive shoulders to provide constant rubber-to-road contact that enhances steering response and cornering stability.
While wide circumferential grooves with hydro evacuations surface ridges on their inner walls and multi-angle “7-shaped” lateral grooves promote water drainage to help retain wet traction, longitudinal and lateral hydroplaning resistance will be challenged if heavy rain or standing water is encountered. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds in these conditions.
The tire’s internal structure features a symmetric shape that helps distribute footprint pressure evenly during aggressive cornering. Two wide steel belts reinforced by spirally wound nylon provide strength, uniform ride quality and high-speed capability.
NOTE: UTQG ratings are not required to be branded on a tire’s sidewall during the first six months of production in order to allow the tire manufacturer to use production tires for their testing, so it is not unusual to see UTQG sidewall branding blank when tires are introduced. Bridgestone has completed its testing and the UTQG ratings for the Potenza RE-71R are listed under the tire specs tab.

Founder at Tiresout. Used to be working as an engineer at Bridgestone Tires Akron Technical Center. The responsibilities included but were not limited to technical computing, indoor & outdoor testing of new tires.
This is my second set of RE-71R tires. I like them. They suit my driving style and habits. They wear well enough and seems to keep their grip over time. My first set still had good traction when I replaced them.
Bought these tires for track use. They’ve performed great in conditions as varied as 30 degrees and snowfall (non on the ground) to 80 degrees and sun. I used a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports last year. I like these tires better. Great grip in the dry, but still able to handle a wet surface. I highly recommend them.Note: the only street driving I do with this car is to and from the track, and I don’t care about road noise, etc. So take that part of the rating with a grain of salt.
Bought a set a while back for my mustang that is strictly an autoX / track car . Grip is impressive . I have driven them in cold conditions and with a lot of track days in them and once they warm up they still grip . There noisy on the road and wear out quick don’t expect a lot of miles out of them especially if you have a lot of camber and drive hard . My front tires are corded and my rear tires are pretty much bald …. but they still hook up at the autocross and have excellent handling . I haven’t driven them in the rain or any damp conditions . I’ve driven in some other 200 treadwear tires and the 71r is by far the most responsive and grippy . Great tire wish it was a little cheaper but you gotta pay to play .
I am very happy w/ these tires. I use these as track tires almost exclusively. I do drive to an d from the track w/ them as well.On the street they are just ok in the rain. On the track they’re not great but they aren’t meant to be.In the dry I’ve found them to be a very good all round track tire – w/ a very good balance of wear and grip. They appear that they will easily last me a full season of track days (3 events – 8 track days total).
Great tire but man are they noisy. Brand new they sound like my old Michelin Pilot Sports with 12,000 miles on them.
Daily driver 60mi/day interstate, 4 autox, 2 trackdays. very impressed. can get a bit greasy hot lapping. will be trying an alternative tire next just for comparison but will likely return to these, very much enjoying them. I don’t know why others are complaining about road noise, my car got quieter compared to all-seasons. combined with coilovers, fm front bar, and some weight stripping, the car is now genuinely a blast.
