The Winter Slalom KSI (Key Snow and Ice) is BFGoodrich’s Studless Ice & Snow winter / snow tire developed for the drivers of passenger cars, Crossovers, SUVs and light-duty pickup trucks looking for the ability to get where they need to go in the worst wintry weather. Winter Slalom KSI tires are designed to provide traction ready to handle winter’s cold, wet, slushy, snowy and icy roads.

The Winter Slalom KSI features a unique micro-pore rubber compound mix that provides a grip mechanism to generate traction on ice and snow without a significant compromise to wet grip. Diamond Cut Block Edges add rigidity to improve treadwear and handling on dry roads while Full Lateral Grooves (FLG) increase tread void to help evacuate rain, slush and snow to improve hydroplaning resistance and deep snow traction.

Its symmetric tread pattern features an optimized sipe configuration that provides 160 feet of high-sipe density biting edges to maximize winter grip. While the tire’s internal structure includes twin steel belts on top of a polyester casing to satisfy the needs of today”s vehicles, most sizes are also reinforced with BFGoodrich’s ETEC System (Equal Tension Containment) of spirally wrapped nylon to provide a consistent footprint and maximize tread area contact to enhance winter driving control.

Winter Slalom KSI tires meet the industry”s severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

When the Winter Slalom KSI is approximately 50 percent worn, a winter tread depth indicator molded into the design lets the driver know that the remaining tread is reaching the end of its ability to provide beneficial snow traction.

Install Winter Slalom KSI tires in sets of four only.

Due to the traction capabilities of the Winter Slalom KSI, BFGoodrich recommends the use of Winter Slalom KSI tires only in sets of four to provide the best handling characteristics and tire performance.

UTQG: Uniform Tire Quality Grading Standards do not apply to winter tires.

  1. Purchased with the upcoming winter season in mind, will know more on total review in the spring, will likely switch to highway style for spring, summer and early next Fall

  2. Got these at the beginning of the year from TR on sale, had them installed locally. Originally had a set of used hankook ipike studded snow tires I ran last winter. My main purpose for my winter tire use is to get me up Mount Hood to Meadows/Timberline safely for weekend trips from Portland… and the occasional city crippling (4″) of snow fall the city may get. Sadly- it does cripple the city. Back on topic- I was very hesitant to go from studded to non-studded winter tires. VERY. Knowing that they do not salt in Oregon and the road up Mt Hood does become quite icy due to heavy traffic/sun melt / road maintenance. So I did some research and came across the TR tire test comparison of studded vs new compound non-studded… watched it, read it… and took a gamble.Bottom Line> these tires rock. Out performed the iPikes hands down. Did fantastic when the resort lot had 2 feet of show from the night before to sun baked patches of ice on other days. Mind you- you have to pay attention on ice no matter, ITS ICE! very happy overall. These tires make for a less stressful ride up the mountain- be it, Mt Hood, Bachelor or Baker.Things to Keep in Mind > 1)These tires are louder over all than the iPike (aside from stud chatter) and other set of Toyos on hard surfaces. Not annoying- just something I initially noticed. 2) The treads pick up road trash like magnets! .25″ stones love the tread gaps and they have a propensity to pick up nails. Have had 2 tires plugged already. 3) The Price- faa get about it. If I new how many more years this Pathfinder had in it- I’d stock pile a second set.

  3. My first time purchasing this tire.must say was amazed at how well this tire responded on snow and wet conditions, its tread design cuts deep into the with excellent traction and drivability. I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4×4 ALL THE TIME. I do believe the weight of the vehi CV le,4×4 and these Winter Slalom tire all attribute to the excellent traction in inclement weather.Would I purchase again without hesitation.

  4. I purchased these tires with wheels for winter driving in North East PA. I live in an area with lots of hills and I see plenty of people slipping and sliding and on rural roads where you don’t have a lot of room before you are in the ditch. I really want to stop and turn and I believe winter tires are best for me where I live. I’m very happy with the Tire Rack service. The wheels look great on my car, they bolted up perfectly, and the shipping cost was reasonable. As for the tires, I took the car for a 50 mile test drive on a cold dry day after mounting them on the car. I was impressed with the grip in dry conditions. I did go on a snow covered road to test snow grip and it seemed to do fine. I’ll have to drive more in different conditions to comment on wet, ice, and deep snow performance. What was impressive was the smooth ride, and a low level of tire road noise for a winter tire. There was no “grainy” feeling that I’ve had with some winter tires due to aggressive and open tread. These tires were smooth like a summer tire. They seemed to turn in pretty quickly for a winter tire so the steering felt precise and confidence building. I didn’t push any traction limits as the tires need some time to break in, but I’m sure they are going to be fine for normal driving. I just expect pretty significant road noise from a winter tire, and these tires exceeded my expectations in this area. Now my hearing isn’t great, but I didn’t hear any more noise from these winter tires than the Cooper all seasons that just came off the car. I’ll do another review at the end of the winter season, but for now I’m very pleased with the tires and feel ready for whatever old man winter throws at me.

  5. I took a chance on these as I have always purchased Blizzaks for winter. These are on par with those as far as winter performance at a lower price point. Where I’ve really noticed the difference though, is in the tread wear. If properly rotated, these tread blocks seem to have lasted much longer than the Blizzaks for comparable driving. I wouldn’t hesitate on buying these again.

  6. So far so good. bought late in the season, have handled a mild minnesota winter very well. Bought on clearance due to a low budget. Am happy with the purchase. will be running then all summer.
