The Mud-Terrain T/AKM3 is BFGoodrich’s Off-Road Maximum Traction tire, a category often referred to as mud tires, designed for the drivers of Jeeps, pickup trucks, full-size SUVs and dedicated off-road vehicles who want a tire that incorporates a long heritage of championship-winning technology in a street tire. Designed to overcome any obstacle that may get in the way and developed with toughness and traction at the forefront, the Mud-Terrain T/AKM3 also focuses on providing acceptable levels of on-road noise and comfort.

The Krawl-Tek Compound of the Mud-Terrain T/AKM3 is designed to enhance grip on rock and slick surfaces and is molded into the symmetric, Terrain-Attack tread design. The large tread blocks provide a stable foundation in loose or rocky conditions and are oriented to provide biting edges in all directions for traction regardless of the angle of approach.

The design of the Traction-Armor Sidewall Sculpture protects the tire off-road by helping prevent hazards from snagging and splitting the sidewall, while the notched shoulder design improves traction in dirt and mud. Stone bumpers in the tread grooves eject small rocks to prevent damage from drilling, and the mud-phobic bars in the shoulders help the tire self-clean to maintain traction in mud or soft soil. Wide grooves and lateral notches aid in hydroplaning resistance, and the independent tread blocks create biting edges for traction in wet or snowy conditions.

The construction of the Mud-Terrain T/AKM3 is focused on toughness and durability, inside and out. Thick sidewall rubber and extended shoulder rubber provide resistance to splits, punctures and bruising, and the internal construction features a robust, three-ply polyester casing to further enhance puncture resistance. A single, nylon cap ply provides reinforcement, and two high-strength steel belts stabilize the tread.

While Off-Road Maximum Traction tires are branded with the M+S symbol and able to churn through deep snow, their typical oversize applications and the absence of snow-biting sipes in their large smooth lugs can challenge their on-road wintertime traction on packed snow and icy surfaces.

  1. My previous set of KM2’s were so great, I naturally went with the KM3 as soon as I finally wore the KM2’s out. I know this is a mud-terrain, and most likely not the thing people care about the most, but I can’t get over the road manners of this tire. My KM2’s were very quiet, and these are even quieter for a mud-terrain tire. Dry and wet traction are amazing. I honestly feel like I’m on an all-terrain. As with every BFGoodrich off-road tire I’ve owned, these things are unstoppable off the pavement. Mud traction is superb, and they clean themselves out very quickly with a touch of wheel spin. Rock traction, specifically when engaging the sidewall, is the best I’ve experienced. The giant sidewall lugs feel very tough and grab onto a rock face like fly paper. I had a set of Goodyear MTR’s in the past and these tires are simply in another league in all aspects. I hope the tread wear is as good as my KM2’s were. I ended up removing those because they were aging (8 years) and I couldn’t wear out the last remaining bit of tread. Haven’t had the KM3’s long enough to gauge, but I think they’ll be great.

  2. Compared to Goodyear Kevlar’s I had previously fitted on my car KM3’s are much smoother to handle on road and less noisy. To my surprise on wet surface the tires performed very well. Also when tested on snow we deflated the tire to 10 PSI and the tire was unstoppable.I am very happy of this purchase and would definitely recommend these tires to all the fun lovers out there.

  3. I haven’t had these tires very long but I felt the need to write a review early on. I bought them even though there are not a lot of reviews yet. I am coming off a set of Dick Cepek F/C’s that I was not thrilled with. So far I have been very happy with these tires. They are surprisingly quiet on the road. Obviously they make some noise, but for what they are, very quiet. I took them off road for the first time last week. They performed great. I am very happy with the purchase of these tires.

  4. Previously has the General Grabber and these KM3 are much more quiet than the Grabbers. Road noise is far less noticeable than the Grabbers. Stiffer side wall and better dry traction and better ride comfort.

  5. Love this tire. They look great and ride great. I get nothing but stares and compliments about these tires. Getting another set when these are done.

  6. These tires were a great upgrade from firstone mt2. Way better ride and more control on and off road. Did amazing in mud and you can barley hear them on the highway. This tire reminds me of a all terrain on the road due to the soft and quiet road noise. BF stepped up there game on this set of tires.
